Each year, hundreds of businesses throughout Shawnee, Jackson, Douglas and Jefferson counties run workplace campaigns to invest in United Way’s work. It would be impossible for our limited staff to reach all of those companies on their own. That’s where volunteers come in.
Campaign Ambassadors serve as critical links between United Way and companies that run workplace campaigns. Ambassadors are volunteers that are either loaned on behalf of a company, or have the time available in retirement, to assist United Way with outreach to our corporate partners. We train each Ambassador before assigning them a portfolio of companies to work with. Ambassadors then spend their time from August through November reaching out to companies and assisting them with securing campaign materials, brainstorming campaign events, as well as speaking on behalf of United Way and collecting donations when campaigns are completed.
In addition to assisting United Way in our fundraising efforts, serving as a Campaign Ambassador is an excellent professional development opportunity. Ambassadors have the chance to network with community leaders as well as develop public speaking, leadership, and organizational skills.
