We need your help to Close the Gap! Most of our workplace campaigns have wrapped up and we have a gap of about $300,000 to close before the end of June. Find out how you can fight for families at our press conference at noon on Wednesday, May 8 at the Visit Topeka offices at 719 S. Kansas Avenue. Thank you to the more than 1,800 volunteers who made a difference through United Way volunteer experiences last year. Together you provided more than 10,000 hours of service to the community that was worth almost a quarter of a million dollars!
If you are ready to join the fight for a better community, now is the time to register for Get Connected, our free volunteer portal. Find opportunities and track your hours online at TopekaVolunteers.org.
United Way offers a unique employee and leadership development opportunity every fall from August through early November. Campaign Ambassadors are employees loaned to United Way from companies that want to take the next step in supporting community change. Ambassadors help engage companies across Greater Topeka in workplace campaigns while enhancing their skills in teamwork, leadership, public speaking and community engagement. Think you might have the right employee for this challenge? Contact Angel Romero at 785.228.5128 or aromero@unitedwaytopeka.org. Read more at: https://unitedwaytopeka.org/campaignambassadors/
New opportunities have also arisen in the past year to work directly with school districts to support student achievement. New tutoring initiatives have begun at Meadows Elementary, Tecumseh North, and Logan Elementary thanks to impact grants in On-Grade Achievement. Each school created a plan to best serve their students, allowing creative freedom to address specific needs while still measuring impact. This approach is a promising new avenue for collaborating directly with school districts to improve student success.
