The founder of United Way of Greater Topeka’s Junior Leader Reader (JLR) program returned to the city today as the organization’s Young Leaders Society (YLS) celebrated a program milestone.
Ryan Yamka, who started JLR to honor the memory of his father, joined United Way staff, partners and volunteers at Pine Ridge Prep Preschool to read a story and pass out books to the students. With this Fall’s reading sessions, .
Yamka said he had two goals in mind when he founded JLR in 2010: “The first was to create a reading program which honored my father, Harry Yamka, and his dedication to helping children.”
