For the past 11 years, Washburn students enrolled in LE 300 (Leadership Skills Development) have spent a semester working in this applied learning course with UWGT staff and donors Joe and Janet Aleshire, who again this year supplied $10,000 of grant funding. Students explore the process of granting money by writing and issuing a Request for Proposals, evaluating proposed programs and presenting recommendations to the United Way board of directors. On Friday, December 9, the students presented checks to this year’s three successful nonprofit grantees - Capper Foundation, Kansas Children’s Discovery Center and Kansas Children’s Service League.
