Coffee & Conversation: Inclusive Leadership

Coffee and conversation Inclusive Leadership Jan 2024

As part of our continuing efforts to expand the capacity of our nonprofit community, we are excited to offer our next Beyond the Basics - Leadership Development Opportunity.

We are hosting a free Coffee & Conversation - Book Discussion around the book: How to be an Inclusive Leader by Jennifer Brown. This book was distributed at our MLK Day Conference in January. You do NOT need to have attended that event to come to the Coffee & Conversation!

If you weren't able to attend our conference, you can learn more about the book at https://jenniferbrownspeaks.com/jbs-book-inclusive

Join us either in Lawrence or Topeka:
  • February 26 from 9-10 am at the Art Love Collective, Lawrence
  • February 29 from 9-10 am at Two Wolves Studio, 305 SW 5th St, Topeka
If you are interested in attending one of these discussions, please RSVP using this link https://forms.office.com/r/xWrFnxri7S.

Beyond the Basics and GROW

"Beyond the Basics" offerings are community and individual learning opportunities, particularly those that expand on the leadership principles taught in our Board Leadership Training course. UWKV recognizes that nonprofit leaders and staff can't always take advantage of expensive or time-consuming professional development. Beyond the Basics offers compact, affordable, interactive workshops, conferences and seminar-style training that increase personal skill and understanding of leadership topics and give participants a chance to build personal and professional relationships with other nonprofit leaders and volunteers.

Board Leadership Training and Beyond the Basics are components of GROW--Growing Resilient Organizations with United Way. GROW is an intentional program of nonprofit capacity building that encourages nonprofits to adopt best practices of volunteer management and professional development. GROW also includes UWKV's Community Navigator initiatives, annual volunteer fairs and days of service (including Nancy Perry Day of Caring in Shawnee County), volunteer recognition awards, and free community access to online volunteer recruitment and communication tools (rebranding this spring as KawValleyVolunteers.org). In Douglas County, GROW also includes our management of a dozen or so AmeriCorps member placements at organizations like the Ballard Center and the Children's Community Center. GROW is managed by UWKV's Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, and many of its components are made possible in cooperation with funders like the Kansas Volunteer Commission. To learn more about GROW or strategic volunteer engagement, email Jessica Barraclough.
