Welcome

5th Annual Day of Giving Sets a Record

DOG Total_Header.png

Thank you for an outstanding 5th Annual Day of Giving! We’re thrilled to announce that you raised $35,492 on the Day of Giving, a new record! Because of you:

  • 1,400 pounds of fresh food can be served to children and families at a time when food insecurity levels remain at all-time highs
  • 434 teens can participate in personal finance simulations to learn how to manage money and prepare for real world choices.
  • Thousands of individuals can connect to volunteer opportunities for free on KawValleyVolunteers.org.

In addition to the dollars raised, you collected more than 1,600 pounds of food and personal care items for our collection drive at Checkers Foods! Special thanks again to the KU student-athletes from Mass St. Collective that came out to help, and to the Ballard Center for distributing these items!

Employees at FHLBank also got to participate in a poverty simulation on the Day of Giving. This experience led by United Way staff allows participants to better understanding of the conditions and daily decisions facing our neighbors who live with poverty. Your donor dollars make it possible to share that understanding and experience with more companies and community groups.

We are thankful to WIBW for their continued TV media sponsorship. Because of them, viewers got to spend the month leading up to Day of Giving learning about our partners and the important work they do in our community. We are also incredibly thankful to our radio partners at Great Plains Media in Lawrence for collecting $2,750 in matching gifts, and sponsorship of an all-day radiothon on the Day of Giving! Thanks to their efforts, listeners got to hear from dozens of the volunteers and partners in Douglas County that make our work happen.

The overall campaign goal for the current year is $2.6 million. Douglas County is only $15,000 from its $600,000 goal after Day of Giving gifts were totaled. Overall, the campaign still needs more than $400,000 to reach its goal. Opportunities remain to give before the campaign ends on June 30. One-time or monthly recurring donations can be made online at https://uwkawvalley.org/give.
