Sarah and the LiveWell Shawnee County team had a productive month making our neighborhoods healthier. Most recently they journeyed to Wichita for learning and collaboration with other grant communities at the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Spring Learning Session. A session highlight was getting to speak on a panel and present a breakout session on how LiveWell incorporates behavioral health into many aspects of its coalition work. Thank you to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and the entire #BCBSKSPathways TA Team for the great meeting.
In April the team cut the ribbon on a new "Traffic Garden" at Ross Elementary. Students can use the traffic garden to practice riding bicycles safely and learn the rules of the road, like how to use a crosswalk and navigate a roundabout. LiveWell's interns served as panelists at the Shawnee County Volunteer Expo professional development session, helping nonprofit representatives learn more about internship opportunities and collaborations with Washburn University students.
LiveWell Listens, a series of community conversations is underway. The April session was held at the Avondale East Care Center in the HiCrest neighborhood of southeast Topeka. In May, LiveWell Listens travels to the Rossville Library. Check out their events on the LiveWell Shawnee County Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/livewellsnco.
