Thanks for Your Help with the Douglas County Back2School Drive
It was another successful Back2School season across Douglas County. United Way is proud to be a partner in this annual drive by coordinating volunteers and collecting supply donations at the Lawrence office on Iowa Street.
Volunteers with the Douglas County Back2School Drive packed approximately 800 backpacks for students in Douglas County on August 4! Our Regional Volunteer Coordinator, Monroe Hanson, estimates that 30 volunteers provided 75 hours of volunteer labor. This year there were 39 donation sites across Lawrence and Baldwin, with Eudora coordinating its collection separately.
When the packing was done, 1,400 backpacks went to students at the Lawrence Schools Foundation Kids Expo.The Baldwin Schools Foundation distributed an additional 20 backpacks, and the Eudora Schools Foundation's Cardinal Ready shopping event served 200 students. Teachers will also receive additional classroom supplies throughout the year.
