Our July board meeting always marks the changing of the guard. We got to say thank you in person to a few of our outgoing members and online to a few others. We appreciate their commitment to creating a strong, healthy and equitable community through their board service at United Way.
Susan Duffy joined the board in 2007. She has served on various committees, inlcuding Strategic Planning, Nominating, Resource Development, and Community Impact. She also served as the Community Impact Committee Chair and most recently the Chair of the Board of Directors.
Jared Rudy served two terms on the board beginning in 2017. Jared is a strong supporter of our leadership events, providing refreshments and willing to lend a hand whenever needed.
Will Lawrence, Chief of Staff for Governor Laura Kelly served two terms beginning 2017. His help was invaluable in energizing our Advocacy Committee, serving as its chair at one point.
Shayden Hanes served a two-year term as one of our Washburn University Leadership Institute members. We love having young leaders involved in our governance and were proud to have Shayden with us. She's taken great strides on her leadership path already, serving as Washburn's student body president.
Incoming Board Members
Having just added several Douglas County board members during the merger, we only filled one additional position with this slate.
Bella Wood moves into our vacant Washburn University Leadership Institute student position. Bella is working toward her Bachelor of Integrated Studies in Administrative Communication with a minor in Leadership Studies & Music. Welcome, Bella!
Executive Board
We thanked Matt All, Clue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, for his steadfast chairmanship of the Board during our merger process and officially changed his title to Past Chair.
We welcomed Marc Fried, Washburn University, into his new role as Board Chair. Marc has been a guiding member of our Strategic Planning Committee and helps consistently with Washburn's workplace campaign.
Rounding out the executive board are Chair Elect Beth Llewellyn, a Relationships and Strategy Consultant from Lawrence and Treasurer Freddy Mawyin, who works for the City of Topeka.
