Better health leads to a higher quality of life and lower healthcare costs for everyone.
Consider that obesity contributes to heart disease, cancer, stroke and high blood pressure and that obese adults cost $1,400 more per year in medical care than non-obese adults. In Northeast Kansas 31.2 percent of adults are considered obese. A majority of Shawnee County residents are considered overweight or obese, and only 20% of adults get the recommended amount of physical activity.
